Hancock Park — Asian-Inspired Residence

Los Angeles, California

For an older couple, both lawyers with a clear sense of what they wanted, Richard Joseph Romano transformed a large English Tudor in Hancock Park into a warm, inviting home with touches of Asian influence. An antique whitewash softened the exterior brick, while decorative beams brought intimacy and character to the living and dining rooms. A soft brown glaze gently aged the beams and archways, giving the interiors warmth. In the living room, floor-to-ceiling shelving and an art niche created a backdrop for two distinct sofa styles, connected through coordinating pillows to define separate seating areas that still felt like one comfortable space. The television room offered a generous sofa and an oversized ottoman for putting feet up during a game, while the dining room blended Asian and contemporary details. The bathrooms explored two different moods: a crisp, pale-green primary bathroom with the wife’s requested clawfoot tub, and a richly layered downstairs guest bathroom with a stronger Asian influence. Throughout, the design brought past and present together, creating the home the couple had always wanted.
