The designer
Richard Joseph
Romano.
SAN DIEGO · PALM SPRINGS · PUERTO VALLARTA
Long before design became his profession, Richard Joseph Romano was rearranging the family’s rooms whenever his parents went away. Even then, he could see how moving a few things could make a familiar space feel entirely new.
His mother encouraged that curiosity with visits to exhibitions, remarkable buildings, and the annual designer showcases on Long Island and in New York. A fascination with architecture, proportion, and composition grew into a career spanning approximately 35 years.
Today, Richard brings that same instinct to every project. Walking through an empty room, he begins to see its possibilities before choosing a fabric, a paint color, or a piece of furniture. His interiors combine expressive color, considered lighting, and unexpected details with an enduring concern for how people feel at home.
A vision you can see.
A home that feels like you.
Every project begins with the people who live there: their personalities, their habits, and the colors that make them feel good. Sometimes the first clues are in the clothes they reach for most often.
Through drawings, layouts, and selections, Richard makes his vision tangible, walking clients through how the pieces will work together. Decisions are made with patience, clear explanations, and respect for both the home and the finances entrusted to him.
There is always room for a little surprise: a vivid pillow that finds its place among quieter tones, or a distinctive piece of vintage glass. These personal touches gently stretch a client’s comfort zone while making the room feel complete.
Room to slow down.
A drink on the patio as evening arrives. Dinner in the open air. The ocean beyond the bedroom, with distant lights across the water. Puerto Vallarta inspires Richard’s approach to relaxed living: interiors and outdoor spaces that flow naturally together, with comfort at the heart of every decision.
